Loafing again

I don't know what's up with us LOL I'm to the point that we've been unschooling again. It's the same old struggle that I had at the end of last school year. Wherein I want to let go and let live but still find the need to have some organized bookwork too even though I know that there's much more to life than just that. I really don't know how to end this struggle. I'm hoping that once all of my daughter's activities begin that it'll be easier to get on track with schoolwork. I know that's probably wishful thinking though. So does anyone have anything that could help to motivate the 2 of us around here?

Hey I haven't been here in a while and I appologize for that.....Have you ever thought of taking a more ecclectic approach. We are using the "Weaver" (which we love), but we always find ways to learn in different situations. There are times we put the books away and do a little unschooling. We also enjoy living books (Charlotte Mason approach). My children also love educational CD-Roms that I get from the library. They have some that are geared to a specific subject like just for math or other subjects, then they have some that are like unit studies (languagearts, history, science, math, etc... all rolled in one), they sometimes have a story line or they are just some sort of game. I honestly believe my dc have barely opened their math textbooks and yet they are learning so much and having so much fun learning....I hope this helps.

Blessings,
JEN

That's what I tried doing last year and it just got so out of hand with everything else that we were doing. That's why I thought we'd go with a more "school" approach this year, which isn't working either. I need to do something each day or else I don't feel like we're getting anywhere. I just need to relax and go with the flow though I guess.

Oh I can relate. I have to have structure or we get no where.

We definately get more on the ball when we have structure!

Hi again, I hope everything is going well and you figured out your dd groove. I hope it's easier with one child. My dc are so different and I am still trying to figure out what works best for them. Being that I went to public school all my life and they were in public school until last year and they are 14 and 11, we definately need to De-School.

I really miss your posts. You inspired me so much last year. Your posts are one of the reasons I decided to try some unschooling (not too much, I guess I'm not 100% ready for that). I am praying everything is OK and wishing you and your dd the best.

Blessings,
JEN

I could have wrote this post myself! :-) Sounds like we are in the same boat, I was mulling over this in my head about our own "homeschool" today. :-)

Hi,
Im new to your site! Just wanted to say that a lot of HS parents feel the way you feel. I was just at the SW Homeschool Conf. at Disneyland, and I heard a lot of the same thing. The best advice I heard was from Julie Anderson. She said that "remember its your family, no one can tell you whats best for your family, its up to you to decide." So, know that you are not alone in how you feel! There are a lot of resources out there to help you figure out to structure, or "unschool". Keep going though! Its worth the effort!

Great subject. I have been playing around with the idea of the comment structure recently. when The popular comment layout is common, so it is easily recognized scanning to post a comment. If the comment section is in a different format, then I am going to spend more time trying to decipher what everything means when The popular comment layout is common, so it is easily recognized scanning to post a comment.
